
Near Peer Tutoring Program
OVERVIEW
Implemented with great success by Eshita Kapoor (CC3) and Arnav Agarwal (PGY2) under the supervision of Dr. Rupal Shah, the Near Peer Tutoring Program was implemented at the University of Toronto. A program where fourth-year medical students (CC4) teach second-year students approaches to common Internal Medicine presentations. CC4s were provided a primer on effective teaching strategies and structured case-based teaching guides to facilitate the sessions, and structured anonymous surveys were used for evaluation. In its first year, 64 CC4’s have helped teach clinical reasoning to 108 2nd year medical students.
Learning Objectives:
Promote interactive case-based discussion on pertinent aspects of patients' history, physical exam, and investigations
Encourage learners to adjust differential diagnosis iteratively
Promote effective teaching strategies
